Discover more from An Artist's Thoughts
Good Afternoon!
I am doing an impromptu type of blog today. Recently, my friend and I discussed how long it takes us to finish a painting. My friend is a traditional artist and uses acrylics for her work. I primarily work digitally. Since we both have different ways of working and use two completely different mediums, the time it takes to complete a piece can vary. However, we both realized that completing an image takes us a while. Plus, because of our busy schedules, some days, it can be hard to sit down and work on our art.
In our fast-paced world, it often appears that everyone is in a race to accomplish tasks swiftly or reach their destination before others. My friend and I have also felt this pressure for some time now. Even though we enjoy creating, this invisible force called “pressure” kept pushing us to hurry up. While it’s good to make sure you are following a schedule and keeping up with deadlines efficiently, I don’t believe it’s good to rush something to completion all the time.
Many others have said this before me, but take time with your work if you can. I understand if some things may not need that much time to review, but I think if it is a project or task you care about; you want it to be at its best quality. So taking the time to refine it and iron out the wrinkles might be more beneficial in the long run than completing it as quickly as possible.
Upon reflection, my friend and I have come to terms with the fact that we may work slower than others, but that is not necessarily a negative thing. We have unique circumstances that occasionally divert our attention away from our creative pursuits, but we always strive to find ways to complete our work on time. However, we also recognize the importance of not becoming so consumed with a project that it never reaches completion.
Achieving a balance is essential.
That’s all I had for today! If you have any thoughts about this topic, definitely leave a comment below!
Have a good week!
